what a waste

E-waste are any discarded products with a battery or plug, and features toxic and hazardous substances such as mercury, that can pose severe risk to human and environmental health. And according to the UN, in 2021 each person on the planet produced on average 7.6 kg of e-waste, meaning that a massive 57.4 million tons was generated worldwide. But only 17.4% of this e-waste was properly collected, treated and recycled.

E-waste is an ongoing environmental risk because it can be toxic, is not biodegradable and accumulates in the environment. It also contribute to climate change because every device ever produced has a carbon footprint and is contributing to human-made global warming. These issues greatly affects human health and living conditions especially for people living near landfills with harmful e-wastes.
